Markosian (in Philosophy) are leading a summer session program in Barcelona this summer. The program consists of two 5-credit classes (for a total of 10 credits). One thing that is distinctive about this program, as opposed to other study-abroad programs, is that it is aimed at students in any major. So it is open to all Western students. Also, there are no prerequisites. (In particular, ability to speak Spanish is not a prerequisite. All of the instruction will be in English.) It is a chance for any Western student to earn 10 credits (5 Humanities GURs and 5 Social Sciences GURS) while spending 5 weeks in Barcelona, which is a beautiful, fun city on the Mediterranean Sea, full of amazing architecture, great cafes, and fabulous beaches. The cost is quite reasonable for the number of credits, and there are various scholarships available for students studying abroad that are not available to students staying on campus; so in addition to being a fun way to earn 10 credits, this is also a cost-effective way to do that.
The deadline for applications is April 4, 2014
Here is a website with information about the program (including syllabi for the two courses): http://myweb.facstaff.wwu.edu/nmarkos/Courses/237/WWU_In_Barcelona/WWU_In_Barcelona_Home.html.
There are links on that website to more information, including information about how to apply for this program. Space is limited, and the application deadline is Feb. 15th, so students who are interested should get their applications in as soon as possible.
