(l to r) Jared Hechter, Brandon Chea, Brandon Nakamura, and Jonah Duncan - Electrical and Computer Engineering majors
This summer, students have been working under the supervision of Assistant Professor Bhaskar Ramasubramanian to understand and develop algorithms to improve behaviors of autonomous vehicles when they share their environments with human drivers. The students have been reading recent research in this domain and working with the Nocturne driving simulator. They have also been spending part of their time trying to assemble a 1/10-scale RC car and with the goal of deploying reinforcement learning algorithms.

Alex Orelind recently won first place in the Global Innovation Inspired Home Show Excellence in Student Design Competition for his ultrasonic meat-thawing chamber, SONA.
Alex is a junior in the Industial Design program. Juniors in Professor Oslapas' fall quarter class are tasked with creating a design that meets the criteria of the international design challenge. Students are to redesign an existing housewares product to meet the needs of the future or create a concept for a new product. Since 1993, more than 6900 entries have been submitted.
