Leona Oliveros - Peer Mentor
Hey everyone, my name is Leona! I’m a Filipino-American and a Seattle native. I am in my 3rd year at WWU with an interest in literature, music, and social justice. I really hope to be an ally and resource to all who are new to this campus because in my time at Western I have learned a lot about the kinds of communities this school has to offer. My freshman year was rough, I went to this school knowing very few people and having no idea what I wanted to do with my life. I explored all the nooks and crannies of our campus and Bellingham in an attempt to find out who I am and where I fit in. Nowadays I have found many places where I feel safe and welcome.
I am a busybody. I like to hike, paint, play the sax, and go to concerts around the area. I like showing people my favorite places as well as discovering new ones. I am a member of WEAVE (Women’s Empowerment and Violence Education) and through this spend a lot of time volunteering around campus. Over all I like to be involved with events and resources on campus. If you see me, don’t be afraid to say hello!
