Sustainable Office Certification

LightbulbWastePeopleBusHouseLeaf

SOC is for administrative and academic office working groups, to measure, improve, and get recognition for their daily practices that reduce energy and materials consumption, impacts and waste. As of Fall 2013, 10% of campus offices are certified Silver or Gold. Participation is open to all. Contact the SOC coordinator to learn more, and sign your office up for Sustainable Office Certification support and tools.

Everyone can do theĀ Top 10 Actions for Campus Sustainability. Small actions make a difference.

Benefits

Sustainable Office Certification reduces costs, protects the environment, conserves resources and promotes fairness, safety and health. The program supports actions and provides a simple way of measuring efforts that happen at the office level. Participating Offices are recognized for their level of achievement, as a way of showing thanks and appreciation for measurement of work well done.

Participation

  1. Volunteer, or designate one staff member as the Office Sustainability Facilitator, to guide the office through the certification process.
  2. Contact the Campus Conservation Coordinator, and submit the interest form. You will receive a questionnaire, and assistance to calculate your certification level.
  3. After you record current office practices and meet with the SOC manager, your office will be added to the published list of Sustainable Office partners. The office will receive a Certificate of Achievement, signed by President Shepard and be recognized at the annual Western Sustainability Awards reception.

Certification Levels

Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum certification levels are determined by the number of points acquired, using the checklist score sheet.
