Commuter Stories
Andrea "Andy" Peterson
"I love walking to work" says Andy Peterson, Head of Systems at Wilson Library. "I enjoy seeing the sun come up, getting some exercise without spending much more time, and arriving at work energized for the day." With two young children at home, time is at a premium and combining her commute with exercise is a real time saver.
Andy, a self-described "fair weather biker" also cycles to work, mostly in the summer. She and her family enjoy running errands on bikes, with the children in tow. "Biking is more fun and just as fast to many destinations" says Peterson.
Most days, Andy takes the bus home to the Sunnyland neighborhood. "Most WWU employees in the neighborhood do bike, walk or take the bus to campus."
Peterson logs her bus, bike and walking trips online at www.whatcomsmartrips.org. By logging her smart trips to work, errands and leisure, Peterson is eligible for discounts, cash prizes and other rewards. She won the $25 Munch Money prize in January's Sustainable Transportation smart commuter drawing.
