Commuter Stories
Cheryl Danielsen
WWU Copy Center Supervisor Cheryl Danielsen enjoys walking. Danielsen and husband Daniel Boxberger (a professor in the Anthropology Department) enjoy walking so much they have taken walking holidays in Switzerland, Peru and most recently, England. "I love to travel, see the world, and learn how people live" says Danielsen. "The best part is meeting people from all over the world."
Getting in shape for her summer treks is one reason Cheryl regularly walks to work. She is also conscious of how sustainable her transportation choices are. She also uses the bus for transportation, and shares a car, which she uses when she needs to "haul lots of stuff or grandchildren."
Danielsen's walking adventures will continue this December in New Zealand, where she will walk the four-day Milford Track.
Cheryl logs her bus, carpool and (local) walking trips online at www.whatcomsmartrips.org. By logging her smart trips to work, errands and leisure, Danielsen is eligible for discounts, cash prizes and other rewards. She won the $25 Munch Money prize in October's Sustainable Transportation smart commuter drawing.
