Laurie Porter

Laurie Porter, of Parking Services, was the November 2008 winner of the Whatcom Smart Trips $250 monthly cash prize drawing.

"My husband and I both work at Western and have been carpooling to work together for over 14 years. We made the commitment to cut expenses and environmental impact by moving to Bellingham from Lynden in 1995. Our commute is now less than 5 miles each way. We consolidate our weekend trips as well and feel good about our contributions to the environment."

Two other WWU employees have won Smart Trips cash prizes in the past. Jenny Hoover (Foundation) won the fall 2008 $1000 quarterly drawing. In 2007, Greg Hough (Facilities) won a $1000 quarterly drawing.
