Weekly COVID Updates
For the week of October 18:
- Information has been added to the Health and Safety page about what the notification process looks like when a student or employee tests positive.
- Information has been added to the Classes and Academics page about classroom exposure notices and illness in classes.
- Information has been added to Western's guidance for visitors on campus page to help university employees know what to look for when checking proof of vaccination and negative tests.

If You Feel Sick
Please do not come to campus if you are experiencing COVID-like symptoms or feeling sick. You should contact a health care provider about your symptoms before coming to campus.
Students can utilize the Student Health Center by calling 360-650-3400 to make a virtual appointment, or to speak to a nurse. Additionally, students are responsible for contacting faculty if they are unable to attend in-person classes. Student employees are also responsible for notifying their supervisor, if applicable.
Employees should contact their primary care provider to discuss their symptoms. Additionally, employees are responsible for contacting their supervisor if they are unable to attend in-person work.

COVID Safety Practices at Western
Western has the following COVID policies and procedures in place at this time:
Western’s mask policy states that all individuals must wear a mask or other suitable face covering indoors when other people are present and in all public and common areas. This includes spaces such as classrooms, labs, shared offices, lobbies, hallways, stairways, restrooms, elevators, and shared vehicles. It also includes individuals in their office if the door is open. People may unmask temporarily if actively eating or drinking.
Masks are also encouraged in crowded, outdoor areas, and required for outdoor events with over 500 attendees.
Masking in on-campus housing: Masks must be worn in all indoor public and common areas. This includes spaces such as: lounges, kitchens, hallways, stairways, restrooms, elevators and lobbies. Students do not have to wear a mask in their suite, room, or apartment. This is the only exception to the policy.

If you do not have a mask with you when you come to campus, single-use masks are available at the main entrance of all academic and University Residences buildings.
Western is requiring vaccinations for all students, employees, contractors, and in-person volunteers.

Visitors on Campus
Visitors are allowed on Western's campuses. All visitors on Western's campuses must follow current masking requirements and any health/safety signage posted.
Our institution hosts many formal visitors. These could include (but are not limited to) community members participating in campus events or programs and extended visits to individuals who live on campus. We are referring to these individuals as “sponsored” visitors.
To “sponsor” a visitor, a university employee or registered volunteer will need to verify vaccination status or a negative test within 72 hours of the arrival of the sponsored visitor. There may be campus programs or activities that require full vaccination from non-WWU individuals in order to participate. It is important to note that those we pay for a service are considered contractors and have a different process to follow.
The process for verifying vaccination status or a negative test should be dependent on the event or program. In every situation, the verification process should be clearly communicated to potential attendees prior to the event or program as well as having signage at the entrance to the program. Western’s COVID Support Team is available for consultation on the process to be used.

Western has transitioned from daily dashboard updates to a weekly report on Mondays. Thank you for your patience as we transition to this new format.
This dashboard will update weekly on Mondays. Campus buildings with confirmed positive cases will continue to update daily.

Cumulative Positive Cases
This section reflects all positive cases that Western has been made aware of through the Student Health Center or Human Resources last week, as well as a running total for the academic year. This includes results of tests that were not conducted on-campus.
This section reflects only testing done through the Student Health Center’s on-campus testing program for students for the previous week and a running total for the academic year. The percentage under each pie chart is the percentage of positive tests for that data set.
Positive Cases Per Week
This section shows the number of positive cases identified each week for students and employees. This includes results of tests that were not conducted on-campus.
The percentage of vaccinated students is based on Fall 2021 enrollment of 15,125 students. This includes students at all campus locations and online-only students.
The percentage of vaccinated employees is based on current employment numbers, which may vary over time. Western currently employs approximately 2,400 people.
This section shows the percent of courses this quarter that are listed as being fully remote or having some level of in-person instruction (hybrid or fully in-person).
