Student/Faculty Designed Bachelor of Science

The Student/Faculty Designed Major (SFDM) is a program/major that leads to a Bachelor of Science degree granted by the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. The SFDM allows students, in consultation with appropriate faculty, to design individualized programs in subject-areas or with educational objectives that are not served by existing departmental majors. Programs may have either an academic or pre-professional focus.

Industrial and Systems Engineering

This is a joint academic program between Western Washington University (WWU) and Washington State community colleges, culminating in a baccalaureate degree in Industrial and Systems Engineering. Students complete the first two years of the program (typically 90–92 credits) at a partner community college, earning an Associate of Science - Transfer, Track 2 (AS-T2).

Biology

This program thoroughly prepares students for a career in Biology, including entry-level jobs across all areas of biology, as well as graduate school or training in biology-related fields like medicine. All students follow a curriculum of math, chemistry, physics, and a strong core of biology courses. Students choose one of seven concentrations (listed below) and have significant choice in their coursework during the latter portion of the degree.

Economics

This Bachelor of Science degree in Economics emphasizes the more analytical, mathematical, and empirical aspects of economics and is particularly appropriate for students interested in technical careers or future academic studies.

Environmental Science

This program teaches students to address the causes and impacts of environmental challenges and to use knowledge of environmental sciences in real-world applications.

Data Science

The skills you will obtain in the Data Science program will enable you to obtain, process, organize, analyze, visualize and model the troves of data out there. Data science empowers you to solve important, challenging problems that are otherwise impractical or impossible to solve. It is interdisciplinary, drawing from the fields of computer science, mathematics, statistics, and information science, among many others.

Marine and Coastal Science

Marine and Coastal Science is a joint program of the Shannon Point Marine Center (SPMC), and the Departments of Biology, Chemistry, Geology, and Environmental Sciences. We are advancing the state of knowledge about the oceans, coasts, and their ecosystems for the scientific community and for the communities we call home.

Kinesiology—Exercise Science

A BS degree in Kinesiology – Exercise Science is recommended for students who wish to pursue a variety of career opportunities related to movement, exercise, sport, and wellness. The major provides a concentrated study of human movement from mechanical, physiological and pathological perspectives.
